History & Heritage

The history of Garaunkalika Temple traces back to a sacred vision witnessed centuries ago. Locals reported a glowing presence atop the hill — a divine sign believed to be Goddess Kali herself. In reverence, a small shrine was established, marking the beginning of an enduring tradition. The shrine grew under the patronage of the Garhau dynasty, who played a crucial role in preserving and developing this spiritual site. Over generations, the temple evolved into a significant Shakti Peetha, a sacred space for Goddess worship.

In the late 20th century, during a period of religious revitalization and cultural preservation, the temple was officially inaugurated by King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev. His visit and blessings elevated the temple’s status nationally, affirming its spiritual and historical importance.
